...deep relaxation?

Allowing yourself to be in deep ralaxation means you are in a different (altered) state of conscious awareness to everyday interaction but you are still conscious of the world around you.

What's being deeply relaxed like? If you think of any moment where you felt you just drifted off for a second of two this is called a hypnoidal state – it's a feeling of total quiet in yourself. You're off somewhere else but you still know what's going on around you and if anyone calls your name you're right back in the present. It feels really relaxed and floaty - almost like that feeling when you're lying in the warm sun day dreaming, or staring at nothing in particular and off into space.

Why does this approach work? By allowing yourself to relax so that you make space in your mind for other ideas to normal to come forward. These might be ideas to act differently rather than automatically respond.
